Offering a Ride

My fiance is a recovering addict. he had been clean and sober for almost 3 years. During his days of drinking and doing drugs while under the influence he was driving and pulled over and asked these 2 girls if they wanted a ride. These 2 girls got scared because of how intoxicated he was they ran home and called the cops with a description of the car and him.

The cops did come to him and called a cab sent him home and charged him with attempting to lure a minor in a motor vehicle. The two girls were 17 years old. They looked about 20. I'm not sure what the young youth looks like today in every state but here in PA they look much older then they really are. His attorney told him in his best interest to plead guilty and he would get 90 days incarceration. 30 days of that in a work release and the rest on house arrest. he also has to do 200 hours of community service and 2 years of probation. Nothing was said at court about having to register at all during court or the 12 months it took him to actually have his trial and go to jail.

First day in jail they ask him to sign this paper saying he was a registered sex offender. He calls me in a panic and i call our attorney. The attorney said to sign it and it would take some time but he would see what he could do. by the time we heard anything from the D.A. he was out of jail and on hour arrest almost done with his time and the D.A. offered to take him of the registry if he served 6 months in jail. Well with his great paying job and his unforgivable boss he would have lost his job if he went back to jail.

We have a family with 3 kids and really couldn't afford to loose a 20$ an hour job. 3 years later we receive a letter in the mail from the school district restricting him from being on school property or going to school functions.

We have a 6 year old in first grade. What are we supposed to tell him. Why can his dad go to his football games or go to school functions if he is with me or other family members. This is not fair! If he was told he would have had to register he would not have plead guilty and would have went to trial. He feels misinformed just so there can be some money maid for the courts!
