The Past is the Past

First of all I’m a wife of a former sex offender not active sex offender. Meaning no harm but when Jesus sets you free your free indeed he changes your mind and heart your whole being , yes I’m bringing up spiritual side , because society the world condemns you for your past , even though your past is past , that is what it is , my husband of 12 years was charged of an offense committed when over 20 years ago but charged in 2009 , the lawyer was a former prosecutor , then became a defendant attorney public , when Hub talked to him , all he said was your looking at 50 if they believe the victim in trial you’re looking at 25 years , prison, so Hub and I talked and his mom and said take way ever plea there is so he did which was written sex offender counseling , comm supervision for life…

Promised a cruise. Stuck with a Kia.

By Scott . . . On March 28, 2017 I drove onto the lot of Faccillo Affiliates of Florida Inc. with the intent of buying an automobile. I chose Faccillo because he had been advertising for a couple months that you get a free cruise if you buy Kia from him. It sounded like a really great deal so I signed the papers. I also want to take Robert, my new paramour, on this cruise. We’d be able to get to know about each other. Drove away with my new Kia and cruise tickets. Supposed to leave December 3rd and be gone for four days and four nights. I purchased a 2016 Kia Soul that had 458 miles on it vehicle purchase price was $16,685. (I did not have a trade-in) There were additional charges such as tax, title transfer, and I also bought a service agreement. This brought the balance to $20,901.33. I received a rebate of $3,250 and…

Stay positive and keep fighting!

By Chris . . . In 2013, I was convicted of having consensual sex with a 27 y/o adult. I was a probation officer having a mental break down and she was on probation with my department. I was on her probation officer when the relationship occurred. I didn’t have power over her, nor did I intimidate her into doing anything she didn’t want to do. But here we are. The government apparently has nothing better to do than to worry about what two consenting adults are doing in a bedroom. The judge thankfully realized the uniqueness of what occurred and I received two years of probation. I underwent a sex offender evaluation and was determined to have not be a danger or have any behaviors requiring S.O. treatment. But I still had to register as a sex offender. My state has one of the more lenient registration laws in the country. Of course sex offender laws are really intended…

Social media vigilantes out RSO to his contact lists

By Todd . . . Hello NARSOL, after reading the latest blog, I wanted to tell you about a true story of someone I know who has gone thru something similar, what I am calling ‘Internet Vigilantism’. My goal is to help those in the same situation, prevent them from making the same bad choices, and let them know they are not alone. This might be a good spot for Tales, but use it how you wish. Here is the story, tweaked things a little for privacy, etc. ‘John’ has been off probation for about 4 years and still must register annually, but has been active in the community, volunteering, traveling and rebuilding a new network of friends/relationships. A big part of that was a social media site where he was able to connect and stay connected with family, new friends, people he met locally and from all his travels. As an RSO, finding new friends and groups to be…

The registry is the most ridiculous, unfair law

My son was recently placed on the sex offenders list in NC. He accepted a plea to prevent the scary thought of maybe losing a trial that would send him to prison for a long time. He was 21 when he made a bad judgement call with an older woman who he trusted to the end. She got afraid that her grown children (my son’s age and older) would find out about her being with my son so she hollered rape on him. She was 51, by the way!!! My Son was the child in this situation, but none the less, he’s is the one charged and suffering this sex offenders list. He has an 8-year-old, little girl he has been raising as his own for 3 years. He does all the good Daddy stuff, helps coach her softball team, is at every game, takes her skating and she really needed him in her life. When he was placed on…

Cruel and very unusual

By Mike . . . I was tricked onto the Florida registry in 1997 when I took a plea for a sex charge for a consensual sexual relationship with a minor. Yeah, I did it. I knew her age also….I’m not like everybody else that makes the excuse they thought she was older, but so did her parents, and they knew my age as well. I was liked by everyone, and the parents never cared about me dating their daughter up to the age of 25. I was very immature, but I never hurt anyone, period. Anyway when they finally told me I was a sex offender, right before I got off probation, I found myself on the Florida sex offender website after the media was telling everyone and anyone to go look at their sex offender neighbors. I saw the word DANGER! above my head with 2 sirens flashing around. I felt like I had been mentally raped of my…

Outed on Social Media

By Sona . . . I am a therapist treating sex offenders on probation and parole. I have a client who recently tearfully told me that several people are posting his registration photo and information on Facebook and harassing him in this way. He is not allowed on social media and cannot respond to this harassment. Friends have told him about the posts and I was able to find one of them fairly easily. I’ve been thinking about ways I can intervene but so far every idea I have is loaded with potential hazards.

Sex offender registration perpetuates punishment for entire life

My life of hell on Indiana’s sex offender registry (SOR) began in 2003 when I was arrested for looking at and printing out pictures of nude preteen girls from the internet. I had just graduated high school at the time, was working a dead-end job, and living on my own with no friends or girlfriend. Also, two major contributing factors to why I was looking at girls that age were that I had been molested when I was very young and the therapist I was taken to failed to address the issue of the abuse in any way. So, I’m in jail as a young adult. This is my first run-in with the law; I had never even had so much as a driving ticket. I am facing two counts, a C Felony and a D Felony. I meet with my court-appointed attorney and he tells me that if I sign the plea bargain that the state will drop the…

Anguished mother registers her own son; wants him removed

I am 60-years-old and my son is 36. In 2005, he was convicted of indecent liberties with a minor. She was his girlfriend (unknown to me). As the records clerk for our local Sheriff’s Office, I had to fingerprint him, take his picture, and place him on the NC sex offender registry. He got probation, but he and this girl just couldn’t stay away from each other- they wanted to marry in 3 months when she turned 16. Thirteen years later, my son is married and has an 8-year-old son. Everyone hates my son. Can’t afford a lawyer to petition to get off registry. Dying here…… – Theresa

Lovebird nightmare and plea for help

I was convicted of 2nd degree sexual assault in Missouri in 1987 at the age of 17 for having consensual sex with my 14-yr-old girlfriend. I was sent to prison for 5 yrs. Needless to say, prison was not good for me. I ended up doing 12 yrs as a result of other criminal convictions. The last 4 1/2 yrs I spent in isolation confinement, 24 hrs day, in Arkansas, because of my mental disorders (Bipolar and PTSD, undiagnosed at the time). I finally made it out and have been out now for over ten years, have obtained Bachelors degrees in Criminal Justice and Sociology, graduating from NMSU in 2014 with University Honors for my published research, “Long Term Isolation Confinement and Mental Health”. I have been clean and sober almost 9 yrs now. Yet all this reform has resulted in me being homeless and jobless on the streets in Portland, Oregon. I am told by my registry officers that…
