Woman School Teacher No Longer Believes In the U.S. Justice System

originally posted 8/2/2009 I read your article online.   Please let me tell you my story and see if you can help me in any way.   Please keep my story confidential. I was a high school teacher.   In April of 2008, a “‘friend”‘ told a story about me that was false.   However, because the boy who was named and his friend told a story, although different from hers, saying something happened, I was accused.   I never told my side to anyone.   The whole town believed in me, though.   They still do, even though at the advice of my lawyer, I took a plea deal.   That lawyer claimed teachers have no chance against juries anymore and so I took probation and having to register as a sex offender.  I did this because I have 3 kids that mean the world to me.   I felt they were more important than taking a chance on being sent to prison….

Nothing We Can Do About It

originally posted 7/27/2009 Back in 1995, before my husband turned 18 years old, he was accused of first degree sexual abuse by three girls.  These girls were all friends, all of which disliked me and the fact that I was dating him at the time.   One of the girls’ mothers was actually my then-boyfriend’s, and had recently fired him from his job and the other two were actually his cousin’s children and were very mad at their father. I still remember the acting officer coming to my mom’s house and saying, “I’m sorry, Joey, I know you haven’t done anything wrong, but I have to take you to jail for the night.”   Numerous charges (25 to be exact) on top of the other charges he had.   He was a troubled teen and into drugs, and I guess I thought that I could save him from himself.   I never left his side.   Even through the two years that he was…

13 Year Old Can Never Go Home Again!

originally posted 7/27/2009 I am the mother of a juvenile sex offender. My son was 13 when he was convicted, and he spent 2 1/2 years in DOC. He is now in treatment, which is part of his parole. Treatment will be for 1 year. He will be on parole until the age of 21. He has to register as a sex offender for life and is never allowed to return home because his siblings are minors. This is my nightmare that I have been living with, already for three years, and evidently for all our lives.

Blind Offender Must Jump Thru Legal Hoops

originally posted 7/5/2009 From the sister and caretaker of a blind offender: It is way past time to reform sex offender laws.  This was a political issue that has gone wrong. It is totally wrong to deprive these people of every a chance at a decent life. We can live by a terrorist or any other kind of criminal in the US and have no right to know, but a sex offender has to let every one know and jump through all kinds of legal hoops. It is definitely wrong and discrimination in my book.

Life Sentence for Something He Didn’t Do

originally posted 7/4/2009 My son was wrongfully accused and forced to accept a plea bargain. It is now been over 10 years and he has not broken one law, not even a traffic ticket, pays child support for children he never gets to see and is serving a life sentence with his face, name, address plastered on the internet for all to see. His circumstances are of existing is to go to work everyday and living in a dump. He has no life and continues to do the right thing. His biggest crime at the time of the conviction was being addicted to drugs and young. He didn’t stand a chance with the weak court system and poorly appointed public defender. He had no rights then and still doesn’t. It is interesting that he never received his day in court but instead was threatened and terrorized by the court that if he did not sign the plea bargain he would go to prison for…

Youthful Offender Can’t Find Work

originally posted 7/4/2009 I am 22 and I am a registered sex offender. I was accused 2 years ago of sexual misconduct with a 16 year old.  He falsely accused me and knows it but did it because of his mother. Now, I cannot find a job. I was just wondering what kinds of places I could get a job. I am not looking for a huge job either;  I am simply looking for restaurants or retail stores. My conviction was only a misdemeanor but I do have to register still.  I don’t know what to do or how to get a job because everyone asks about any convictions besides minor traffic violations or does a background check.

A Corpse Without a Grave

originally posted 6/22/2009 The comforting of my grandchild (2 yrs old)after he fell out of bed, while I was in the bathroom, landed me a sex offender for life (sexual assault of a minor). I lost my house, my job, my family (wife was fired three times from jobs because she was still married to me for 23 years -all gone) my dignity. I simple hugged him to stop him from crying, and him being sexually assaulted by a peer during day care caused social services to blame me for actions I did not do. My grandson bumped into me while I was standing up. I pushed him away immediately and told him you don’t do that. He turned and walked away. 11 years later, no work, no job, no means to feed myself, turned away from shelters and housing in Wisconsin. All from a simple incidental/accidental touch. I took the responsibility to protect my grandson from social services’ dirty filthy minds, and I’ll pay for that for the…

Lonely Young Man on a Computer

originally posted 6/22/2009 My son was convicted and is serving 15 years in federal confinement because he was a lonely young man on a computer. He NEVER touched a child. He never took the pictures on his computer nor was he accused of doing so. But because of “federal guidelines,” X number of photographs (each FRAME of a video counting as a photograph) equated to 15 years in prison. Many of these pictures he’d never seen, some were in the deleted part of the computer…didn’t matter that he’d never been in any trouble, worked hard, and was a good citizen. The other young man arrested in the same “sting” had posted sexual pictures of himself to a 13 year old girl across state lines with the intent of luring her to Texas…he only got 5 years. And my son will be a registered sex offender for the rest of his life.

Revolving Door for People Falsely Accused

originally posted 6/19/2009 My son also was taken at the young age of 18 and is now 27 yrs old. It has been a nightmare and has been a repeating cycle of in and out of  prison for the smallest violations. This nightmare began in 2002 in which he was sentenced to a year county time for lewd conduct with a minor. He had been living with this family in which the mother had picked up my son to go and live with her and her two daughters; the mother lied to my son about her daughters age and introduced him to meth. This was a party house and my son had been up for four days and one evening when he was laying on the sofa the mother approached him sexually when he refused she stated that he had made the biggest mistake of his life and would pay for rejecting her; this is when she called the local police and made the…
