originally posted 4/16/2009 Thank you for your site and a chance to post my comments. I live in Oregon. I turned myself in in 1989 because I wanted help to stop being a SO. Little did I know what the outcome of that would be, and if I had the same decision to make today…I would never have done it! I picked up the phone and called CSD and said I wanted help. 5 months later I was convicted of 3 felonies,5 years probation,complete the SO program in the OSH, which I spent 34 months there (and really needed it). During that time Megan’s law was enacted and even though I pled guilty in 1990 and have put my heart and soul into never offending again and so far have been successfully recovering… well sort of, even though I have not acted out, I still have to endure the ramifications of society. AND HE DIDN’T UNDERSTAND WHAT THE CONSEQUENCE WAS. PROBATION WAS NO PROBLEM, BUT TO GET FINGER PRINTED EVERY THREE MONTHS WAS A PROBLEM. HE WAS ARRESTED IN THE MIDDLE OF THE NIGHT A COUPLE OF YEARS AGO BECAUSE OF THE NEW LAWS. HE HAS TRIED TO JOIN THE FIRE DEPT, HE CAN’T. HE WANTS TO DEER HUNT WITH HIS SON AND CAN’T. HE CAN’T WORK ON SCHOOL PROPERTY OR WORK ON GOVERNMENT JOBS. THIS PUTS OUR SMALL FAMILY BUSINESS IN A BIND.

He was serving a five-year probationary plea and didn’t even make it through the first year, today, in fact, being one year since his release from jail. We’ve had no word of his whereabouts and have mixed emotions, as I’m sure you can understand. Do we try to find him and bring him back to this mess? Or, and we have no choice but to do the latter, do we just pray for his safety and the chance at some sort of life for him elsewhere? originally posted 4/6/2009 In 2002, almost 7 years ago, I was railroaded into taking a plea of possession of child pornography– “30 years to life if I fought or 9 months for a plea” — what would you risk? Had I known at the time that I would be required to register as sex offender for the rest of my life I would have never taken the plea. After I served a short stay in a federal prison I returned home to find that employment opportunities had all but disappeared. I was also told that I could no longer take residence in most areas of my home town as they were too close to a church or a park or a school, etc. After my face was plastered in the local paper along with all the other “predators,” I discovered how people can quickly turn from a friendly acquaintance to a hateful stranger. originally posted 4/5/2009 I am currently awaiting sentencing for possessing child pornography. I suffer from clinical depression and Borderline Personality Disorder. The possession was due to a tendency for Borderline patients to act impulsively and in self harming ways. They also have a tendency to feel unjustly evil, and in my case, I attempted to find a reason for such feelings. I’ve become suicidal numerous times since the onset of the investigation against me, once being hospitalized on a 72 hour mental health hold. I’ve been in therapy, both individual and in group for over a year, and have sought help from friends and professionals alike. Ironically, my sentencing relies on a psychological evaluation conducted by a man whose degree is from an overtly religious conservative Evangelical Christian seminary school. As ignorant as I was before I had gotten myself into the mess I’m currently in, I still find it hard to comprehend the severity of the punishment that awaits…
originally posted 4/3/2009 Maybe you folks can get something done about the Adam Walsh act that prevents me from bringing my family to America to live. I was falsely accused 20 years ago by my 14 year old step daughter of molesting her, but it was lies on me out of revenge because I told her mother about catching her in a three way orgy, and her mother slapped her in her mouth busting her lip. Like a fool I was advised to take a plea bargain because I had a prior felony for writing a forged check when I was about 22. I was threatened long prison if I went before a jury and they found me guilty The DA and court appointed lawyer said they would probably agree with the girl because of my prior felony. originally posted 3/28/2009 My son’s father was convicted of a sexual misconduct with a minor (he was found guilty of groping a 14 year old girl), and served his entire five year sentence. He is unable to find permanent housing in post-Katrina New Orleans and is now facing incarceration again for failing to register as a sex offender. Reform these draconian laws now! My son needs his father.

No one knows the facts and people are filled with media-induced fear until it happens to their child, husband, brother or even daughters and sisters, mothers and aunts! My son was barely 19, drinking of course. He was forcefully pulled into a laundry room and a fifteen year old girl proceeded to attempt oral sex on him. The act was never finished, as someone walked in and he snapped to. She cried rape, afraid of her boyfriend finding out, who happened to be 21 at the time. Her parents allowed her to attend all-night unsupervised parties, go to gay bars in a nearby big city, and basically act as an adult. Later that evening the girl recanted and told the truth but one of the kids there hated my son. My son was only 8 days past his eighteenth birthday! The girl continued to spend the rest…
