Punished for a Hospital Stay

By Rebecca… My son is on the sex offender’s registry. He has always reported and paid on time. He committed his crime 15 years ago and was adjudicated as a minor for that offense. He has not committed any crimes since. Last December, he was diagnosed with a severe diabetic complication that required multiple foot surgeries. He was in the hospital longer than expected due to infection. While he was in the hospital, the nurse accidentally broke his phone. We haven’t been able to afford another phone, so he went without. Two weeks ago, he was scheduled to report for the registry. Even though it was physically difficult , he appeared for them. They asked about his phone. He told them it was broken, so they asked for another contact number. My son gave them my number, even though he does not use my phone. The police called me this morning to inform me that my son has a felony…

The Polygraph is Superstition

By Registered Citizen564 … If anyone does not know, the California Sex Offender Management Board (aka CASOMB) has phone call conferencing open to the public. Well since I’m not only a registrant but a member of the public I thought I’d conference in on their call today about the polygraph and all its wonderness and goodness fantasticness. What I heard today was a lot of 100% USDA Ground Choice B.S. unfortunately. A lot of Orwellian Doublespeak (1984 book) also present. There were CASOMB people on the call, a few PO’s, and, you guessed it, a few people who make their living off the polygraph. I was the only registrant on the call and I was proud to be there for you. There were a lot of “hum’s” and “you knows”, and a few “pretty much sure of’s” and when I asked the hard questions, the answers were vague and wobbly, “ well you know, “we’re working on making the polygraph better…

Sanctioned Life Destruction & Murder!

By PerryP…. I’ve been on The Registry for many years now, and to be honest, I deserved being on it for the Crimes I have committed in the past. However; I’ve never used any Weapons, in any of my Past Crimes either. My Last Conviction ended up with me doing 5 years. I thought that would be the end of it, but No. Nearly Eleven Months AFTER MY CONVICTION, I was brought back to Court, and in an SVP Hearing, WAS LITERALLY CONVICTED AGAIN BY HAVING TO REGISTER FOR THE REST OF MY LIFE! I’d been told that because The ADA waited so long to have me Convicted like that, was Illegal. To this day, I still don’t know it that’s true or not. At this point, it’s kind of Moot. I was scared to be honest; because even in Prison, there are other Inmates who are only too willing to Attack and try to Maim or Outright Kill anyone…

My Cruise to Cabo San Lucas, Mexico.

By Kim… Well Good Morning. I have just returned from a 5 day cruise to Cabo San Lucas from LA. I was relatively nervous but had done extensive research from others here and elsewhere on what to do pre-travel and what to expect. Full disclosure: my incident was in 2007 and I have been off parole since 2012. Also: I am a woman and even though I believe in feminist ideologies, I also believe that women for obvious reasons do not have the same stigma attached as men (not relevant to this discussion but thought I would share). I have been on 3 cruises prior to 2016 and was denied Carnival after that with a letter and phone call and returned my money. This cruise was on Norwegian. I gave the 21 day notice “over the phone” to my registering agency and she did not ask for anything but the dates and destination. All she said was thank you and…

Life is What you Make of it

By Victor… I served a little over two years in federal prison for three separate sex offenses. Most of my poor choices were related to viewing child pornography. It was a long-term addiction I suffered through for about 20 years before I was finally taken down by an FBI sting. In a way, it was a huge relief to finally be caught because now I knew this sad part of my life was over. What I didn’t know was how incredibly difficult life was going to be from that point on. I was on active duty with the Air National Guard as an officer and had served close to 30 years in the Air Force, although not all of it was active duty. I threw away a wonderful career and destroyed my family. That was over seven years ago. As a military veteran I am very thankful for the help I received from the Dept of Veterans Affairs (the VA)….

There are still countries you can travel to!

By Tod… YOU CAN TRAVEL OUTSIDE THE USA! Hello, I read a lot of depressing, discouraging stories all the time about being on the registry and wanted to let everyone know it is not ALL doom and gloom. We have choices, we can let the ‘system’ win, or make the choice to live a good life. Yes, that life would be a LOT better if the registry miraculously disappeared, but we all know that won’t happen in most of our lifetimes. So why sit and complain and worry about what you can’t do – focus on what you CAN do. In the 12 years I was in the ‘system’ I pushed the boundaries every day on living my life – PO’s hated it, but it is also how I proved to those in control I can make good choices, and in the end, was able to successfully complete the program and eventually released – but of course on the registry…

Juvenile S.V.P.

By Joshua… On October, 13th 1998, I and a male friend engaged in a sexual experiment while finding a stashed pornography tape…I was 13 years old. In September 2003, when I was 18, I was arrested for Attempted Involuntary Deviate Sexual Intercourse and charged as a Juvenile, My case was transferred because the courts felt their wasn’t enough time left for me to be rehabilitated in the Juvenile System. I entered a plea in 2004 and was sent to prison for 8 years. I was also labeled a Sexually Violent Predator under Megan’s Law 2 and now I am subject to life-time registration, counseling, and Community Notification. I am now 35. My life is miserable, employment doesn’t come easy, landlords frown upon the community notification and my monthly counseling has turned into weekly counseling with the threat of prosecution by the state sexual offender assessment board if I don’t comply with the weekly counseling. I’m not on probation or parole,…

Traveling on Cruise as a RSO

By Jon… I have been traveling on cruises for 10 years as RSO. I never had any issues until my latest cruise. I live in a state where I am not on the rso website. I usually do close loop cruises so I can use my birth certificate to get on the ship. Close loop cruise is cruise leaving and returning t a US port. On a close loop cruise US citizen do not need a passport. This cruise i could not find my Birth certificate so I had to use passport. I do have the new passport with the stamp in back. To board the ship I used an expired passport that was 2 years old. I boarded in San Juan so do not go through customs when boarding. I presented my expired passport to the cruise line. A supervisor was called over and asked if a new one was being sent to me. I said yes they allowed…

Yet Another Life Ruined

By JamieW… My name is Jamie, and I am on the Registry in Pennsylvania. I have been on it since 2004 after being released from jail after serving a 5-year sentence. I was convicted of aggravated indecent assault, along with a slew of other related charges. The judge at my sentencing hearing informed me that upon release, I would be required to register for the rest of my life. I was 29 years old at that time. I am now 50 years old. That judge also told me that having to register is not punitive, but simply administrative. This conviction has cost me my family, friends, a promising career and my dignity. I was under the foolish impression that I would get out of jail, get a job, go back to school and move on with my life. Well… When I got out of jail in 2004, I very quickly found out that no one would hire me. I found…

Enough is enough – Trying to keep a job

By Beth… My son had consensual sex with a 15 year old girl back in 2003. He was 22 and she was 15. It was very wrong and he knows that. He got caught in a sting after that and actually confessed to having met a girl online. That is how the state of Texas was able to bring charges against him, he was honest. The girl, nor the girl’s parents cared about bringing charges. It was his first offense and he was sentenced to 10 years in prison. Let me just say it was an election year and the judge allowed a camera in the courtroom. He served 9 years and 9 months. He has stayed positive and has a good life. People that know him, know he is honest, hard working and good man. He has recently gotten married and they just had a baby. Well a company that believes in giving second chances hired him and he…
