originally posted 12/31/2009 I was convicted of molesting my daughter in 2004. I felt bad about my actions and had self-disclosed them to my wife at the time, who then turned me over to the law during our divorce. Since then, I have undergone 5 years of treatment and have successfully completed probation. Throughout it all, I have had the support and backing of my current wife, whom I married in 2007. We met online during a brief period of time between being released on my own recognizance and being inducted into the probation system, where I was then denied the ability to be online. We stayed in touch via phone conversations and she visited me on multiple occasions until we eventually married. My wife is an immigrant and non-US native. When we put in our paperwork for immigration, the Adam Walsh Act had not been well publicized. We were shocked to learn that they wished…
originally posted 12/29/2009 I’m wondering how we are supposed to get work. I used to get contract work but now I can’t even get a job at Lowe’s or McDonald’s. EVERYONE is checking and NO one is hiring! Even though I was 19 at the time and it was over 11 years ago. Just curious if anyone had any suggestions. I’m about to have to move home with my parents at 31 years of age. I don’t know what to do… I’m completely broke and lost and have no way of reestablishing a life. At every turn I’m turned down, kicked down, knocked down… is there any hope?
originally posted 12/29/2009 I am a Cold War veteran and a father of three beautiful children, I am not a rapist, child molester or kidnapper. I had been convicted of a NONVIOLENT sexual assault in the fourth degree, that now does not appear as a statute,17 years ago, and last year was told that I had to register as a sex offender for LIFE. I have already paid for this offence 17 years ago in full according to the laws of that time. Now I am being punished again for the same offence, they call it civil collateral, I call it a violation of my right to be human on this planet. According to Declaration of Human Rights of the United Nations. This State is in direct violation of Article 3, Article 4, Article 5, Article 6, Article 7, Article 11, Article 12, Article 21, Article 23 and Article 30 of this document!
originally posted 12/17/2009 As a few of you know, my son recently took his first polygraph as part of his probation. He passed the test because he was very honest; however there was a serious consequence to his honesty. Because he had drunk and watched adult content on Showtime (they called Showtime “pornography”), his PO filed to have his probation removed, recommending prison for a year and GPS monitoring (in our state, the monitoring would be for life). The court-ordered therapist was very surprised at her recommendation, stating that was NOT what they had discussed. We then found out that the judge who would be hearing this is the toughest in the county with zero tolerance…the county detention overflowing with people waiting to be sent to prison, much because of his harsh sentencing. We did not have much hope. But, with much much prayer and constant and unwaivering faith, we received a miracle. My boy was sentenced…
originally posted 11/30/2009 I was tried when I was 18 and convicted of carnal knowledge of a minor between 13-15—it was my high school boyfriend. I was 17 at the time, and he was 14, almost 15. During our relationship I ended up pregnant and was charged and convicted! — Now I have to deal with being labeled as a sex offender– this has ruined my life!
originally posted 11/28/2009 My husband is on the sex offender registry in Illinois, for 15 years for having a consensual relationship with me, his wife, when I was 16. He is lumped in with (child molesters), rapists and the worst kind of perverts. We have three children and my husband can’t keep a job (he has a P.H.D), he can’t pick up our kids from school,we’ve been thrown out of our home twice because we live by a school and police monitor our home. Why in God’s name isn’t any common sense prevailing around this issue and start letting people off the registry who are not a public threat? This is destroying our family, our children’s well being and my father in law( a decorated war veteran) has depleted his pension supporting us. We have testified before the Illinois legislature, had several favorable articles on us in the Chicago Tribune, yet they wont let my husband…
originally posted 11/25/2009 My husband was arrested for solicitation of a minor, a computer offense, while we were dating. This is when I discovered he had developed an addiction to internet chatting for sexual purposes in an attempt to remain celibate until marriage. He began when he was approximately 18 years of age and was 29 years old when arrested for chatting with a 14 year-old undercover cop. I do not condone what he did, but I understand how he got caught up in his addiction. My husband will soon begin a 5 year prison sentence and be a registered sex offender for life. What he really needs is counseling and a chance to lead a normal life. Under the current laws this will never happen. My husband is a good Christian man who is also a human, and is not without sin. He has never denied responsibility for his actions and is very remorseful. I love him and will always support him.
originally posted 11/20/2009 My husband was convicted of 2nd degree sexual assault on a child in 2007. She was the teenage daughter of our neighbors who we were very good friends with. She was very promiscuous for her age and acted in a very provocative way toward the men around her … including her older brother and her own father. I had always sensed that there was something going on with her. Being in the social work field she had many signs that she was sexually abused in her life in some way. Our families spent many evenings together as well as weekends. My husband was the neighborhood go-to-guy. He would get out there and get the kids involved in playing sports. He fixed things for everyone. He was fun and helped the neighborhood with whatever was needed. The neighbor girl grew very fond of my husband. There was times she would hang…
originally posted 11/17/2009 I’m currently a registered sex offender in North Carolina. I know that my state isn’t as bad as some with their laws, but I’m afraid that it will get worse. I’ve been on the r.s.o. list since 2001 and have two years left. I was only 18 when I got convicted of indecent liberties with a minor. The girl was 14. Her parents were alright with us dating and said that they didn’t care what we did as long as she didn’t get pregnant. I was ill-informed that the law was as long as the age difference was less then 5 years it was legal. Well after we broke up her parents called the police. I never denied anything we did I even told the police everything we had done because I didn’t know it was illegal. We never had sex because she wanted to wait but we did everything else other then vaginal…
originally posted 11/12/2009 I was charged with a sex crime as a young adult back in 1996. Since that time sex offender laws kept increasing, and have gotten so ridiculous. I can’t even go to a public library anymore. I have been highly dicriminated against, even though I have served my debt to society. No wonder people do not want to register. My victim forgave me years ago. Yet this unforgiving world, in my opinion will never inherit the kingdom of GOD. Only those who will inherit the kingdom are those, that have accepted Jesus. Yet one day when we give an account to GOD what is the response going to be as to why are sex offenders being ousted from community and even church. Everybody in my opinion has commited a sex crime, yet my bible says all have sinned and fallen short. There is noone who is `more righteous than thou`. All this discrimination is no better than…
