Punished for Life for Acts at Age ll

originally posted 2/25/2010 I am a Clinical Psychologist who recently had a client convicted of CSC and will now be on the registry for the rest of his life for incidents that occurred when he was 11 years old.  I don”t understand why a person under the age of 13 at the time of the incident can have the same legal consequences as an adult convicted of the same.   The glitch in the law is that there was over a 3 year age difference between the 2 children.   An 11 yr old could never know the future legal consequences of curious behavior.   He is now 16 and is being treated as if the incident just occurred.   I think a jury should at least be advised that the registry is inevitable with a guilty conviction. I think there needs to be a change related to minors with regard to the registry.

Reformed Offender with a Solid Proposal

originally posted 2/24/2010 The opinions in RSOL blogs and tales are those of the person sending in the blog or tale, and are not necessarily those of RSOL.  We do not endorse this man’s proposal, but he has taken a lot of time to make a serious start! ———————- My Story with a Law Suggestion: NOTE: PC290 is the designation requiring sex offenders to register in California. Over 20 plus years ago, I was out of control with myself.  I was also out of control with drugs and alcohol and had a lot of stress on me. I was very young (23), had 2 children and worked long hours trying to support them.  Being so stressed and with the drugs and alcohol, I was out of touch with reality.  I came home after spending the day with alcohol and drugs and inappropriately touched the young girl who was our babysitter.  I was not attracted to the baby sitter, she was…

Lonely Person Looking for Soulmate

originally posted 2/18/2010 My son was deceived by a minor posting as 18 on an adult website. He did not go looking for minors.  Just a lonely person looking for a soulmate.   I am tired of no blame for “Lolitas” and negligent parents.   Laws disregard civil liberties of these persons.   It’s like a “Scarlet Letter” of Puritan Days.    Branding is a crime!   Murderers don’t have to be on registries.   They do their time (with criminal intent), and then are free.   Many of these “sexual offenders” had NO CRIMINAL intent, but are branded for LIFE???   Where is the justice and civil liberties of these people????   It is a disgrace in the criminal system.   Taxpayers are paying to keep these young men behind bars and on registries for no good reason.   I am so disappointed in our system.   Where is the justice?

Internet Sting Puts S.O. Through Hell

originally posted 2/16/2010 I am 35 year old sex offender.   I was charged for chatting online to a “minor” on yahoo but the profile was an adult profile, which later the person claimed to be 15 years old – bait and switch (state police sting).   I was sentenced to 4 months jail and 2 years probation, all of which I have completed.  I was never tested for drugs or alcohol which I had in my system when arrested.   I went through hell to make a good life and recover.   I have a very successful job and wonderful friends and family that knows the truth why I socially committed suicide.   I hate that I allowed myself to become this far gone I knew I was killing myself.   I would love to share my story with someone in person.   I do feel I DO NOT belong on the registry.   I was snow balled and forced to take a plea but that’s another story.

Star History Prof Can Never Teach Again

originally posted 2/16/2010 My son was convicted in CA, but he was sent to Texas to serve his time.   It is much too expensive to travel there . I talk to him weekly and communicate with letters.   All our funds went to the lawyer.   He was advised to take a plea, and gave up all rights.   I cried that day in court.   This was a year ago and I am only now coming out of a deep depression. My son, 39, has never had more than a traffic ticket.   He is a college history professor, with a great reputation.  He went through a divorce and was depressed and got into adult porn several years ago.   Two videos of child porn were on his computer.   He is serving a six year sentence.  That is bad enough, but when he gets out, what will he do with this label?  He can not teach again….

Does Anyone Smell a Set-up?

originally posted 2/16/2010 My nephew just looked at pics online – he NEVER touched anyone – just looked!   He is a quiet young man who plays games on computers and I guess looked and e-mailed a pic to a “friend” who convinced him to mail it to him.  Does anyone other than me smell a setup? I think it is VERY important to weed out the false sex offenders.  If the law jumps to arrest all that they “THINK” are offenders – the jails will be overflowing.

Even 15-Mo. Old Son Suffers!

originally posted 2/16/2010 I am a Son, Husband, Father, Marine, and a SO.  And my Family is highly affected by these unjust laws, even my 15 month old son suffers because of it.   When will common sense and logic be used?   Reform is not just a need but a requirement.

Disabled Mom Wants to Help Only Son

originally posted 2/16/2010 Please forgive me for this letter because I am a disabled mother of a sex offender.   I felt overwhelmed attempting to understand what your site is about.   My son is now 34 years old and he had consensual sex with a 15 year old girl with he was 19 years old.   He has truly suffered over this situation for years and has never been arrested for this type of behavior again.   He is now homeless, can’t find a job and I haven’t seen him in 10 years though we talk all the time on the phone.   I am working on the laws in Florida. My son has been suffering with this horrid label since he was 19 years old.   He is now 34.   I want him to have a life.   This is ridiculous.

Living in Fear

originally posted 2/16/2010 Currently sex offender laws damage the lives of children and families of nonviolent offenders.   They take away basic civil liberties like safety, the ability to make a living, and the right to private lives.   No one should be punished after they have completed their sentence or probation.   Additionally, this law means that all groups of offenders are classified the same way and this is simply bad policy.   Our family lives in fear everyday that someone will commit acts of violence against us because our address is listed publicly.  The whole process has been horrific for our daughter, my husband, and myself.

My Daughter Can’t Be in Girl Scouts

originally posted 2/6/2010 It seems no matter how hard we try to change some of these laws we will not be able to.   Once a law is made it is forever on the books and rarely ever changed.   I was 19 years old and met a girl who was 14 years old at the mall;  well, we ended up having sex and dated for just a few weeks and than we stopped seeing each other.  Almost 2 years went by and I was called downtown and asked about how I knew this girl…. .Long story short – her parents found an old letter that she wrote to one of her girl friends about me and her parents read it and went down town to file a complaint.   This was 2 years later.  By that time, I had a fiancee and she was  four months pregnant with our baby!  I go to court for having sex with a…
