Criminals calling us criminals?

Hello; my name is Joseph.  I was charged in the Military and Court Martialed on 1 count of Carnal Knowledge under the UCMJ Art 120. I ended up being 6 hrs late to my having to register cause I live 20 miles away and could not get a ride in 48 hours after moving into my new house. I got charged with failure to register. My prior crime was non-violent, and we went  to court several times over the next couple years, and I went to jail 2 times because of it (the city tried me first, and it was thrown out by the judge after 3 weeks in jail; then the state picked it up, and I spent another month and was released on bail). The charges were then Nol Prossed-nolle prosequi (no-lay pro-say-kwee) n. Latin for “we shall no longer prosecute,” which is a declaration made to the judge by a prosecutor in a criminal case (or by a plaintiff in a…

Just Don’t Understand

My son was arrested a year ago in Washington, and I just don’t understand.  My son was caught looking at child porn and went to a “share” file.  Evidently when you go to a “share” file, it downloads everything from your computer.  So he was arrested for looking at child porn, and because it went off his computer, he was put in prison for distribution.  The prosecutor kept threatening with more and more time, and also going to feds if he didn’t take the plea. So my son is in prison for 50 months.   He is in prison in Washington, and I have been reading articles of people that have molested, raped etc, and they get less.  They say no one wants to go under this prosecutor.  And he was nasty. I am just not understanding why there is no consistancy.  So now he is in prison and then has to be on probation for 5 years and then register….

Reform in Missouri

My story begins with my son who is ADHD, diagnosed in the 3rd grade and medicated.  He decided he didn’t need his meds at 17, and the impulsiveness increasingly got worse and worse.  Due to his immaturity socially, he ran with the younger crowd because they liked him for who he was at their maturity level.  Well, the younger crowd includes younger girls, and they thought my son was pretty cool with a car and in high school. Needless to say, the girls in a particular group were unsupervised, and we all know the sexuality of teens.  My son “made out” with a girl, consensually,  and is now in prison for child molestation for touching, no penetration.  He will be on the registry.  His psychologist who he saw for many years testified that he was not a child molester and should not be sentenced to prison.  The judge and PA in our small town are close, and my attorney was…

Non-Felon Register

I am currently a 25 year old male registrant of the Sex Offender list. I was charged in 2009 when I was 21 with a Class C Misdemeanor of Child Molestation for having a relationship with someone who was 16 years old. We met through work and had dated for several months. After meeting her family, everything seemed fine until one day things suddenly turned upside down. I was originally accused of rape, but the doctor the parents took their daughter to said there was no evidence of sex at all. Her parents, not being too happy with this, still wouldn’t let up, and this led to the courts filing the charges of the misdemeanor. 2012  and court was finally settled. I was given shock time and two years of probation, which I have no problems with. I did do something I shouldn’t have by having a relationship with her, and I accept those consequences. But what I don’t like…

I feel your pain

This was posted as a comment by The Outcast on “I Do Not Know if I Can Continue to Live Like This.” It is too long for a comment, so I am moving it to the main entries–editor   The really sad thing to me about this story is that in 31 states, the age of consent is 16 years of age (see “http://www.age-of-consent.info”). In New York it happens to be 17 years of age, probably because when the idiot politicians over there created their age of consent law, the dart they threw happened to stick in spot “17″ on the dart board.Submitted on 2013/01/30 at 3:47 am notamonster, you should definitely look into a remedy known generally as the “Certificate of Rehabilitation”; at least, that’s what it’s called here in California. In New York there are actually 2 different versions; the “Certificate of Relief from Disabilities” and the “Certificate of Good Conduct”. I’m not going to attempt to explain…

Outcast from society

It’s such a bummer reading these stories, as they mainly serve to underscore the utter hopelessness and despair I feel on a daily basis as a result of having been branded a “sex offender” for the remainder of my life.   I swear I wish I had an answer for y’all (and for me and my family too!); some glimmer of hope, or “light at the end of the tunnel” would be great, but alas, such is not the case from where I’m standing.  So WTF, I suppose I’ll tell my story here too since I have nothing better to offer at the moment. First though I want to say to “notamonster”, “Matthew”, “AngelWolf”, “sandy”, “stricken”, and every other last one of you out there:  I will be a friend to you.  My deepest desire is that I could offer something more substantial, but I’m happy to give what I have: basically just a friendly, listening ear, and a shoulder to cry on…

I do not know if I can continue to live like this!!

I was in a relationship with a 16 year old girl when I was 23, 17 years ago. I plead guilty to Rape 3rd in New York State and was told I would have to register for 10 years and serve 5 years probation.  After about 6-7 years laws drastically changed.  I was forced to move as where I had lived for several years was to close to a school. I was forced to register all email addresses and have my picture posted online labeling me a monster. I am forced to register my vehicles and work information if I am attending college etc. I didn’t plead guilty to this; I had no idea of the repercussions of that guilty plea. I was engaged to a local elected official, I was living at her residence at the time.  She received a lot of flak for this, as you might imagine.   As this is an election year for her, I left.  I was not…

Any New News On changing Pa. Law

I haven’t heard any new news on what’s happening with groups standing up and fighting this new law in Pennsylvania.  Last I heard, RSOL said they are going to stand up and fight this for a number of reasons.  Like 10 days after RSOL announced that, I got a call from my local A.C.L.U office and they took down my complaint, and said they have been swamped with callers and people looking to file a complaint, that they are forwarding all complaints to the legal team and they will determine which way to best handle this.  Also, the one advocate from RSOL named Frank is the liaison to a attorney that will handle this as well.  I am posting this in hopes someone has any news on what’s going on.  As this is stressing me out worrying about this.  I don’t want to seem like a whiner but I am trying to stay strong and keep the faith.   But…

Back In Time

You know this new law that came out in Pennsylvania on December 20, 2012 has brought back those same old feelings I had when I first was released in 2004… I didn’t go out except at night to shop because I didn’t want to run into people especially with children around.  Then I finally found a job that kept me out mostly at night.  Which was great that way I was safe from being around people and the fear of being picked out or pointed at and whispered about…then I got laid off and developed health problems and I slowly become a recluse and didn’t leave my home except for bill paying and shopping which slowly turned into not leaving except for health issues…THEN now that I need a nurses aide daily and I was ending my 10 year registration I hardly thought about my past except at that once a year trip to the PSP to be looked down…

Scarlet Letters

written by Matthew Every law designed for sex offenders goes back to colonial days and the branding of the scarlet letter “A,” and in our case it’s the letters “SO,” and it is designed to humiliate and control us.  And the person to blame is John Walsh.  Yes, he says it’s for good of the children and society.  BUT, he is doing it just out of pain, anger, and money; then it trickles down to the children and society.  He’s placed the fear in society’s eyes that, when you say sex offender, it evokes a emotion of revolt and anger and even shame in people’s minds.  I made a mistake back in the early 90′s, and I took a few naked pictures; they was just simple standing or laying down or sitting pictures, nothing that involved stuff like porn.  And I sent them over the internet.  So I got busted and charged with making child porn and transmitting over the…
